The Challenge

Stamford Endowed School needed a new sports hall flooring system that combined versatility, enhanced comfort underfoot, and easy maintenance. The existing flooring required replacement to better support a variety of sports and activities, ensuring safety and performance for students and staff.

The Solution

As trusted installers of Gerflor UK & Ireland's Taraflex® Surfaces, we recommended and installed the Taraflex® Evolution SL Surface in an elegant Silver Gray finish, supported by a Taraflex® Subflex AE underpadding foundation. The installation process involved removing the old flooring, integrating a moisture-resistant membrane, adding a cushioning foam layer, and applying precision-cut boards. The final step saw the application of the Taraflex® Evolution Surface, with 9 court markings meticulously planned and executed by Mark Biddle and his team at Biddle Sport. These markings included five badminton courts, one basketball court, one netball court, one volleyball court, and one hockey court, complete with hockey skirting. Additionally, floor sockets were installed, and four cricket creases were marked.

The Results

The installation of Taraflex® Evolution Surface transformed Stamford Endowed School's sports hall into a safer and high-performance facility. The new flooring supports multiple sports, including five badminton courts, one basketball court, one netball court, one volleyball court, and one hockey court, complete with hockey skirting and floor sockets. The enhanced durability, comfort, and ease of maintenance, supported by the metrics of 81% bio-based content, EN 14904 Category A3 compliance, and less than 40% force reduction, ensured the facility met the school's diverse athletic needs.

Additionally, the floor conforms to the Department for Education (DfE) technical guidance, making it a reliable choice for educational facilities. The Subflex AE features Gerflor’s advanced Protecsol® treatment, which reduces heat build-up and simplifies maintenance.
