About Highcroft & Great Barr C.C.
Highcroft & Great Barr Cricket Club, based on Slade Road Birmingham, is a hugely community-focused club with a strong tradition in local league cricket. The club supports a wide range of players - from juniors to adults - and plays a key role in shaping young peoples lives and grassroots cricket development in the region. With growing participation the club identified a need to invest.
The Challenge
As player numbers grew and expectations increased, the club faced several key challenges: outdated and limited practice infrastructure, and aging ground equipment that no longer met modern standards. Their goal was to raise the overall quality and usability of the ground, both for matchday performance and regular training, within a 12-month period. The scale of the transformation required careful planning, phased delivery, as well as compliance with our ECB approved systems and standards throughout.
The Solution
We partnered with the club to deliver a comprehensive package of facility upgrades they could achieve with their granted funding courtesy of our partners TJB. The centrepiece was a new 33.20m x 7.42m two-lane enclosed practice facility, constructed on our ECB Approved ‘A-Base’ Pitch System with full groundworks and anti-vermin measures.
Earlier in the year, an ECB Approved ‘A-Base’ Non-Turf Match Pitch was installed on the main square to provide consistent, high-performance play in all weather conditions. We also modernised the club’s scorebox through a full structural conversion - a 48+ hour project that improved both its appearance and matchday functionality.
Supporting ground equipment was upgraded too, including three mobile cricket covers, two 4.0m x 4.5m sight screens, a double rope winder, and a BOLA bowling machine, all delivered and installed to enhance day-to-day ground management and player development.
The Result
In just 12 months, Highcroft & Great Barr C.C. has undergone a full-scale transformation - with training, matchplay, and ground management facilities now aligned with modern cricketing standards. The new practice area is already proving invaluable for player development, while the non-turf match pitch has added reliability to scheduling and gameplay.
The upgraded scorebox, improved visibility aids, and responsive ground equipment have elevated the overall matchday experience. Most importantly, the club is now well-positioned to support its members, expand community engagement, and continue growing in the years ahead — all made possible through a close and collaborative partnership with Durant Cricket.
